Smooth Blendz is a business I started with a co-worker when I worked at a Health Club soon after the dot-com crash. I came to America always wanting to own my own business and this was the first true venture in that direction.

We came up with recipes, purchased equipment, designed and built our space in the gym, hired a few employees and started selling smoothies.

I am no longer selling smoothies, so obviously the business did not do as well as anticipated but the experience of owning the business, even for a short time was priceless.

What did I learn? I learned not too wear myself out trying to get rich. So much time is spent trying to think up ways to succeed financially. I would also caution you about who you partner with. Being in business is a great way to meet people of all faiths and hopefully bring a beam of truth in their lives, but partnering with someone who does not share the same moral values is a painful and expensive experiment you can spare yourself.

Rather, crave God’s wisdom and understanding, devote yourself to know Him better and to learn what his will for your life is. Knowing God’s precepts is one thing, living them out is much more difficult. Forget the money, the comfort, the luxuries. Seek truth and God’s wisdom at all cost, live them out and persevere, as James says, looking forward to the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. There is no more important priority. Paul was a tentmaker, make tents! What you do matters less than what you think about all day. Choose to think about God and how you can serve him. Yes – all day!

    Chiefs vs. Broncos

Kevin and I went to the Chiefs-Broncos game today. Kenny provided the tickets. It was an exciting game and we had a great time despite the cold temperatures.
Probably the most important play of the game. The Kansas City Chiefs defense stops Denver runningback Mike Anderson (38) for no gain on a fourth down play with one yard to go with 2:11 remaining in the fourth quarter. Chiefs win the game 31-27. Go Chiefs!

    Fall in Kansas City

A beautiful fall day in Kansas City. We are at Wyandotte County Park and the foliage is gorgeous this time of the year.

    Mt. Diablo

Today we visited Mt. Diablo California State Park. Elevation: 3,849 ft.

The only way to visit The Golden State is in late style convertible.

My friend Dan and his son Isaac.

Dan and Alicia. Isaac, Elise and Ian on Mount Diablo.

Alicia, considering a $2.4M summer cottage in the hills… perhaps not.

Mount Diablo’s curvy and twisty roads were a delight. Sunny California with temperature in the 80′s made for a perfect day.

Jack Bauer’s 4th of July Weekend

Jack Bauer’s Mission: Deliver St. Bernard named Rufus, A.K.A. Fuzzball, from Kansas City to Livermore, California. Coordinates.

Driving through Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and California. ETA: 32 hours.

The subject: Sedated and neutralized. Actually, mostly snoring the whole way.

Between Salt Lake City, Utah and Reno, Nevada is the Bonneville Salt Flats Speedway.

Rest and refill in Battle Mountain, NV. Note to other CTU agents daring this mission: Gas stations scarce in NV. Fill up Trailblazer more frequently when passing through Nevada in order to avoid having to drive on fumes behind a semi for 50 miles.

Detour to North Lake Tahoe was worth it. The smell of pines was as breathtaking as the view.

Entering target State: California State Line. Rufus resting at Mile 0.

Seulement en Californie! Une Citroen DS. Mort de rire. Translation: Only in California would I see this french car, a great french sedan in the 1970s.

Target acquired. Finally, Rufus and I arrive at our final destination. Livermore, CA is outside of the San Francisco Bay area.

Rufus’ owners, happy that Fuzzball was delivered safely.

Jack Bauer’s extended 32 hr mission is finally over. Resting in the safehouse/au-pair apartment behind the main house. Happy Fourth of July!

    Gabe plays T-ball

Gabe started playing T-ball this summer. We have a fun time throwing the ball, hitting the ball and…

    …running around the bases.

    Great Wolf Lodge

We spent a relaxing weekend in Wichita and then spent a night at the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City. This was Camille’s present for getting straight A’s in Kindergarten this year.

Great Wolf Lodge is an indoor water park with several pools, slides and hot tubs. And the hotel.

Gabe’s big smile after ice cream.

    Dragon Park

Today Mommy and Camille went to a bridal shower for Sheena, so the boys went to what we call the Dragon Park in Kansas City. This odd sculpture is made out of steel and wood and is shaped like a dragon.

    Let’s fish Daddy!

I see a big fish in here.

We had a great time riding dragons and going after sharks today.

See ya later alligator, after while crocodile.
