Smooth Blendz is a business I started with a co-worker when I worked at a Health Club soon after the dot-com crash. I came to America always wanting to own my own business and this was the first true venture in that direction.
We came up with recipes, purchased equipment, designed and built our space in the gym, hired a few employees and started selling smoothies.
I am no longer selling smoothies, so obviously the business did not do as well as anticipated but the experience of owning the business, even for a short time was priceless.
What did I learn? I learned not too wear myself out trying to get rich. So much time is spent trying to think up ways to succeed financially. I would also caution you about who you partner with. Being in business is a great way to meet people of all faiths and hopefully bring a beam of truth in their lives, but partnering with someone who does not share the same moral values is a painful and expensive experiment you can spare yourself.
Rather, crave God’s wisdom and understanding, devote yourself to know Him better and to learn what his will for your life is. Knowing God’s precepts is one thing, living them out is much more difficult. Forget the money, the comfort, the luxuries. Seek truth and God’s wisdom at all cost, live them out and persevere, as James says, looking forward to the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. There is no more important priority. Paul was a tentmaker, make tents! What you do matters less than what you think about all day. Choose to think about God and how you can serve him. Yes – all day!
